2. Why is the ETSB offering Google Apps for Education?

This product enables ETSB to provide students and employees with ETSB-branded, advertising-free access to a variety of popular cloud-based tools at a low cost to the School Board. To find a description of the services offered by Google, click here.

3. Can both employees and students use Google Apps for Education?

Yes, all current employees and students have access to an ETSB Google Apps account.

4. Are there any restrictions on using Google Apps for Education?

Yes. Because everything saved to Google is not hosted by ETSB’s servers, ETSB cannot guarantee the security or privacy of the information recorded on Google’s services. Although Google is known worldwide for its reliability and robustness, the ETSB forbids its users to record, send or share any nominative or private information through google’s sites or through any other external service provider.

5. How can I use Google Apps for Education?

There are lots of ways to use Google apps for education, work, or personal productivity! For inspiration and examples, visit Google Apps on YouTube!

6. Are all of Google’s Apps available with an ETSB Google Apps account?

No. Although most of Google Apps are actually accessible to all of our users, the ETSB can decide to turn OFF some apps if it judges that it’s not appropriate. For example, Google+ is not accessible for elementary school students.

7. What’s the difference between a Google account and a Gmail account?

A Google Account can be used to access a variety of Google apps and services, including Gmail, from a single unified profile. A Gmail account is simply an email account provided by Google. When you use your ETSB-branded Google Apps for Education account, you automatically receive access to an ETSB-branded Gmail account as well.

8. What’s the difference between a ETSB Google Apps for Education account and a regular Google account?

ETSB Google Apps for Education accounts are branded with our edu.etsb.qc.ca domain and users are not presented with advertising while using them. However, not all Google apps and services are available with a ETSB Google Apps account (but most of them). Also, a regular Google accounts limits the storage space but ETSB’s accounts have unlimited access!

9. What if I already have a non-ETSB Google account or Gmail account?

No problem! Using your ETSB Google Apps for Education account will not affect your existing personal Google or Gmail account. Your Google Apps account for ETSB provides the benefits of using Gmail and other Google tools in an ad-free environment.

10. Are there any technical requirements for using Google Apps for Education?

Most Google tools simply require a computer or mobile device with an internet connection and a current web browser. However, not all features of each tool may be available on all platforms/browsers. For more details, check the Help manual for the product you are interested in using.

11. How do I change my ETSB Google Apps account password?

You can change your password by accessing the ETSB Password Management Tool. This tool will ask you to create 4 security questions. Those questions will be helpful for you in case you forget your password. Answering correctly to those questions will enable you to change your password and regain access to your account.

12. Does my ETSB Google Apps account password expire?

No, your ETSB Google Apps account password does not have a timed expiration period, although we do recommend changing it periodically for security. Because the accounts are separate, changing your ETSB Google Apps account password will NOT affect your exchange or edugroup passwords and vice versa.

13. What happens to my ETSB Google Apps account if I graduate or leave ETSB?

All accounts can be deleted after a student or employee leaves ETSB. Therefore, it is important that a user leaving ETSB transfer any important information from his/her @edu.etsb.qc.ca account to some private account or data storage. It is also important to change your AppleID to a personal e-mail address if you leave ETSB in order to maintain access to items purchased with Apple.

14. Why might I be denied access to a Google calendar, document, or other resource?

You may be trying access protected content while logged into Google with an account other than the account that has permission to access that content.

When you log into one Google App or site, Google remembers who you are so you don’t have to log in again when you try to access another Google App or site. If you use more than one Google account, you just need to make sure you’re logged with the right account to access the content you want. Account information and sign in options are usually displayed at the top of Google’s webpages for easy access.

Google also supports signing in to multiple accounts at the same time. More information about that feature, including how to set it up, is available at Google’s Support Site.

15. Where can I learn more or get support for Google Apps?

Because Google Apps for Education is a hosted solution, support is provided by the vendor. To access support documentation, visit Google Support.

16. How do I log in to my ETSB EDU Google account?

To access your Google Apps account, go to http://portal.edu.etsb.qc.ca, click Login and enter your userID (student number for students, last name follower by the first letter of the first name for employees) and your ETSB EDU password. After your login, you can access all google apps from the Quick Links menu or through the Google Apps page.

Here’s a tutorial explaining how to do it: http://youtu.be/vgLt-XcxANc

17. Will I still be able to use my Edu-Groupe @ped.etsb.qc.ca account?

Your Edu-Groupe account will be accessible up to the end of June 2015. Edu-Groupe will be deleted after that date and all emails and communities will be deleted from it. It is mandatory for users to backup their communities and emails before that date. We highly recommend that you start sharing your new address with your contacts quickly.

18. What’s the best way to do the transition from Edu-Groupe to GMail?

First, the emails can be forwarded from Édu-Groupe to your gmail account. You can do this by following this procedure:

Second, your communities will have to be recreated under google. There are many ways to share content on google:

19.Is the content of the portal identical in french and english?

Although the vast majority of the pages are translated, it is possible that some pages are only available in one language. Therefore, it might be a good idea to try a different language if you look for content and cannot find it in your selected language…

20.What are my username and password for GPI Internet?

Check with your secretary to see which email she entered for you in GPI. Your username is that email and the password is the one you use for that email.

21.What are my username and password for the help desk Wiki?

Your username is the part before the @ in your email and your password is the one you use for that email. The “Your domain” line should reflect the part after the @ in your email.
